 L.G. Barnes
My name is L.G. Barnes III and I've been potting since 1994. I'm a native of Augusta, Georgia. I got my start in clay at Augusta State University, where I received an Award for Excellence in Ceramics in 1996. I was hooked immediately because it felt very natural to me. I spent the next 3-4 years immersed in clay and sharpening my skills. In 1998, I moved to Saint Louis and found a community studio to do my work with lots of great artists there to keep me on my creative toes. I enjoy making one-of-a-kinds because it keeps me fresh. If I'm going to work on a series of teapots, for instance, I like to have a variety of shapes and colors amongst them. For a while I focused on making larger scale pieces ( over 2 ft. tall ) to challenge myself but I can also range to the miniature side. I'm very thankful to have found this medium that allows me to express myself and communicate to the world something about me.
